Philippines Trip Between January 9th and 12th, 2003

(The following pages were recreated from notes that I took while I am/was on the trip.)

This was my second trip to The Philippines ("P.I.").   During the week, I stayed at the
"Discovery Suites Hotel" in Pasig City.   (The city is located south of Manila and halfway
between Makati City and Quezon City.)   It is a very nice hotel, located within walking
distance of many malls, restaurants, bars, etc.   I highly recommend staying there if
you're in the area.

Here are some of the highlights of the trip --
1 Even though I had only made the plans for the trip two days beforehand, my friend picked me up at the airport.   How's that for hospitality?
2 I stayed at the "Discovery Suites Hotel ".
3 We went to a salon to get haircuts.   They included a lot more than just that!
4 One morning, my friend and I played golf. " You should have seen the service that we received!   It almost made me feel guilty.
5 After golf, we REALLY got the relaxation treatment.   More details are on the "Text" page.
6 I bought several items would have cost much more expensive in Japan.
7 I had dinner and then went dancing one night at a local Filipino restaurant.
8 When I went to the airport to return to Japan, there were around 1,000 people waiting to leave.

Some things of note --

  1. There were many American sports utility vehicles around.
  2. From personal experience, I believe that the warnings provided by The United
States government are unnecessary.   If you're interested in hearing why, please
refer to the "Text" section for more details.
National/International Crisis
Strangely, whenever I travel to a country in either Asia or the South Pacific, a
national or international crisis occurs.   During this trip, the crisis was national.   The
Philippines ("P.I."government, with the help of the United States military, was fighting
the 3 Muslim-oriented terrorist groups -- Abu Sayef, NPA, and MILF.   Even though
the fighting was occuring in remote southern islands in P.I., the United States had a
travel advisory to its citizens to not travel to P.I.
