(The following pages were recreated from notes that I took while I was on the trip.) Pictures Text This was my second trip to Thailand. I was there in November of 2001 (refer to my Pictures page for that trip). Initially, I was only planning on going to Japan to do some job-hunting, but my friends convinced me to join them in Thailand for a few days. (I didn't want to go! Roight!) Some highlights of the trip were (in no particular order) -- Eat at the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel in Jomtien. It has a great view. Take a handheld fan. You'll be a hit (if you can take the embarassment). Danced on stage at some of the bars. The girls loved it. A sign at a hotel where they were working on the swimming pool -- "... Please apologize for the inconvenience. ..." Bought silk shirts for $3.50 each and Reebok walking shoes for $30. The quotes of the trip: Craig -- "I picked one!" Dave -- "Welcome To ... Stinky Town." (from the song 'Welcome to Funky Town') Unknown -- "This is Just Wrong!" Trying to sing a Thai song in a karaoke bar is an effort in futility. Dave and Mike got tired of the music being played at one bar, so they took over as DJ's. Ah, 'Margaritaville'! 'The Therme' in Bangkok was packed after hours with girls, maybe 200 of them. Dave doesn't remember a thing about the trip. Some lessons that I learned were (also, in no particular order) -- The flight to Thailand from Osaka's Kansai Airport takes 5-1/2 hours. The front desk personnel at the Nana Hotel are very unfriendly. Be prepared for it. Around the Suhkumvit Road area, it is better to take the Sky Train than to take a taxi because it is quicker, less expensive, and has a better view of the city. It's very humid between May and October. I recommend going between November and February. Get laundry done at a local place, not by the hotel. It's significantly less expensive and the quality is just as good if not better. Take money to buy clothes. The rumors are true -- The quality is top notch. If you see a girl in a bar that you REALLY like, ask her if someone has already paid her bar fine. If not, pay it without hesitation. Also, leave right away -- She may have lied and you don't want the other guy showing up looking for her. Don't pay more than 1 baht per minute for Internet access. There are plenty of Internet cafes around, so keep looking. As I mentioned on other pages that I have created on my Web site, I discovered that my friends and family who use AOL's software are not able to access the pages if they contain pictures. With that in mind, I have created 2 set of pages here. One contains pictures and the other contains text. Sorry for the inconvenience. I hope that you are able to view and enjoy everything. I did (in person, that is).
