The Parts

The Parts

They are as follows (from left to right) --
  1. The "Legs"
These are aluminum stock 36 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 3/4 inches thick.
  2. The Base
This is the Base from a wheel grinding pedestal.   It cost $15 at a local tool supply store.   Welded to it is a female-to-female coupling.
  3. The "Platform"
This is (obviously) the most complex part of the system.   I describe it in detail on "The Platform" page.
  4. The Stem
This is the other part of the wheel grinding pedestal.   Welded to the bottom of it is a male-to-male coupling.   The top of it contains a male coupling and eye screws for the Turnbuckle-Cable connections.
  5. The Declination Shaft Extension (with Clamp), Collar, & Hitch Pin
The Extension threads into the bottom of the Declination Shaft for portability.   The Clamp (attached to the Extension) holds the Counterweights from sliding.   The Collar both holds the Counterweights in place and protects the Extension from getting scarred (since the inner diameters of the Counterweights are larger than the outer weights of the Extension.   The Hitch Pin is inserted through the bottom of the Declination Shaft to keep the Counterweights from sliding off of the shaft in case the Clamp fails.
  6. The Counterweights
(You know what these are used for.)
  7. The Turnbuckles & Cables
The Turnbuckle-Cable combinations are used to create stability in the bottom half of the mount.

(These descriptions should make better sense when viewing the pictures on the other pages.)
